A coalition group, Coalition 2020, on Monday disclosed that it has concluded plans to search for a  credible gubernatorial candidate who would be sincerely ready to serve the people of the state in the forthcoming governorship election.

Hon. Akin Akinbobola, chairman of the coalition, revealed this in Akure, the state capital, when he visited the NUJ Correspondents' chapel.

He explained that all governorship candidates participating in the October 10, 2020 gubernatorial election in the state would be subjected to questioning and scrutiny with a view to identifying who among them is set to serve the people of the state.

Coalition 2020 is a pressure group, which cut across 37 political parties, over 300 social organizations, labour unions, professional associations, and artisans.

According to Akinbobola, the Coalition has a sole aim of seeing to what could be done to bring about real change to enhance dividends of democracy and effective governance in the state.

The son of the late foremost politician in the state, Chief Olusola Akinbobola, who died on July 7, 2020, revealed that the Coalition is self-sponsored to avoid being subservient to any politician.

Akinbobola said "We are going to call their candidates (political parties) to interface with the people of the state. We must not fall victim of deceit. We must vote for someone who credible and would respect the people. And this can be done if everyone comes together. So, it shall become a stakeholders' meeting.People must not take us for a ride. They have to serve us.

"The bottom line is that we need a servant and not a ruler for the state.
The scrutiny will take place in late August 2020 With the pandemic, we will need to design it in such a way to achieve maximum result.

Adding that "At the moment, Coalition has no candidate, until the scrutiny of all the candidates is done. We need a candidate that will take the people of the state to the real next level so that the people can feel good governance. We do not want our people to allow any politician bought-over their conscience and votes on porridge".

The Coalition formed in July 2019  by conglomerate of politicians from different political parties,  Labour leaders, over 300 social and interest groups and artisans with  aim of shopping for credible and good leadership to steer governance of the state.
