NANS calls CP to checkmate group supporting Akeredolu...who unleashes mayhem and terror across campuses in ondo
As no fewer than ten students sustained varying degrees of injury on Friday as a group reffered to as, Aketi Students Support Group, allegedly unleashed mayhem on students of Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo, and Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH) Okitipupa in ondo state.
The group was said to have attempted to force some students of the institutions to endorse Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for second term.
In a statement jointly signed by Akinteye Babatunde Afeez and Adekunle "Ashley" Oluwatayo, chairman and Director of Media and Publicity of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) JCC Ondo State confirmed the incidents and called on the state Commissioner of Police, Bolaji Salami, to order the arrest of all the culprits immediately before it snowballed to full violence and all other relevant security operatives to note.
A few students of both institutions were said to have resisted the Aketi group which had done endorsement at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko.
Led by Olanrewaju Emmanuel Akeredolu, a former president, National Association of Ondo Students (NAOS), the Aketi group was said to be visiting all tertiary institutions in the state to coerce into the group students who are from the state.
But some students of Adeyemi College of Education who were on campus were said to have resisted the group from gaining entry into the school.
Emmanuel was said to have gone to town to reinforce and unleashed mayhem on the campus before heading to Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology(OAUSTECH), Okitipupa where they perpetrated same dastardly act.
Okunomo Damilola, President, Students Union Government, OAUSTECH informed journalists that the group arrived at the gate of the campus to distribute palliatives and asked few students on campus to declare support for Governor Akeredolu's second term bid by taking photograph with them.
Damilola said: "But we told him we could not do that. We said if we did that, it means we are okay with the present situation in our school. Governor Akeredolu reviewed upward our tuition to N200,000 as Engineering students. We don't have enough lecturers, no power supply on our campus, lecture rooms are not enough, no laboratories. Is this same government that we are going to support to continue in office? God forbid.
"When we declared that we could not support the governor, Emmanuel and his group who arrived in about seven vehicles attacked a few of us on campus. They outnumbered us. They snatched and destroyed phones of some of us who were taking photographs and recording their violent activities at our gate. They even went away with my power bank."
Thanks
When contacted through a call Emmanuel, he denied attacking students of the institutions, though admitted that his group was attacked by some miscreants at Adeyemi College of Education.
He explained that his group was supporting the second term bid of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, therefore, his group was touring all campuses in the state to distribute palliatives to students who were marooned in school at the outbreak of COVID-19 and the ensuing lockdown.
Emmanuel disclosed that he had visited AAUA and College of Health Technology, Akure to sell his candidate, Governor Akeredolu, to students, particularly those who have Permanent Voter's Card(PVC) so they could vote for the governor in the October 10, 2020 gubernatorial election in the state.
The NANS JCC however alleged that Aketi Boys attacking students on the campuses and coercing them in the endorsement "in their usual manner of going round the tertiary institutions to create fake scenes of students showing the "4+4" hand gestures in support of the Ondo State Governor, "H.E Akeredolu Odunayo Rotimi SAN"in his re-election bid."
NANS JCC therefore listed Infinix Hot5, Samsung GT19152, Power Bank and iPhone 6S plus as some of the items snatched away by the Aketi Boys at OAUSTECH during the attack. While also calling on security operatives to put a check on this group before their actions get out of hands.
