EXPLOSION ROCKS AKURE ONDO STATE CAPITAL... thirteen injured, millions of naira worth properties destroyed.




Explosive devises suspected to be used for quarries operations have exploded in the early hours of Saturday, injuring over thirteen persons and destroying more than sixty houses in akure, the Ondo state capital.

The incident which occurred around 1am on Saturday at Ilu Abo along akure owo expressway also destroyed other property worth millions of naira.

When visited the place report heard that the explosion had caused apprehensions and panic among residents of the Ondo state capital in general.

Security agents have also condoned off the area for avert any unforseen circumstance that could again arise as a result of the explosion which divided the road into two with dunghill along the expressway, disallowing vehicular movement along the major road.

Meanwhile, Ondo state Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and his deputy ,Agboola Ajayi have visited the place to have on the spot record of the incidents.

While the Governor speaking after being briefed by the state Commissioner of police, Undie Adie described the incident as monumental, appeal with the people to stay-off the scene of the incident, because of some undetonated explosive that may still be around, moreso for security reasons.

In his words, " In the meantime, I advises people to be careful and take precautions not to rush to the scene. This is pertinent because the blast, the scene and its immediate effects are already security concerns".

Adding that " This is more so that no one can confirm if undetonated devices are still stuck in unseen corners, especially in the gully already created by the blast.  It ts, therefore, in the public interest for people to allow security experts access to the area by de-populating the scene. Security agencies will keep the public informed of developments as they unfold". Akeredolu noted.

The Governor said owing to the road that has been cut-off, an alternative route will be worked on immediately for commuters plying the route to have an access road.

Also narrating the incident, the state Commissioner of police, Andie Udie said the incident occurred around 1am in the early hours of Saturday when a truck legally conveyed explosives to quarry in neighbouring state,Edo state developed fault and in the process of fixing the fault,fire started and blown off the truck.

While there were thirteen injured persons, and no casuality recorded, as the explosion affected several buildings, churches and schools.
