SECURITY : NIGERIA ARMY REITERATS THEIR READINESS


The Nigerian Army have revealed their  readiness to compliment efforts of the Police and other security agencies in the conutry at protecting the lives and property of the citizenry.


The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division of the Nigerian, Maj. Gen Anthony Bamidele Omozoje stated this while speaking with journalists after the commissioning of a 6-kilometer road network in the headquarters of 32 Artillery Brigade,Akure Ondo state.


He posited that the division which covers six (6) south west states and Edo state has put in place operations across the zone to nip in the bud the current level of insecurity in the areas.


Maj. Gen. Omazoje who agreed that the police are the lead agency in internal security , however said all hands must be on deck to curb the increasing kidnappings ,killings and other crimes in the country.


In his words, "We have our men in six south west states including Edo state and also with our operations in this area.
" Whatever the police is doing, we will compliment their efforts because in internal security, police take the lead," he said.


Noting that,  befitting barracks would help in no small measure to boost the capacity of troops in delivering their core mandate of securing the nation.


He said: " This is done in recognition of the role army is playing in complimenting government efforts in the area of security.  As this will no doubt enhance the performance officers and troops of this brigade and it will also have multiplier effect on their capability to deliver on their mandate."


Speaking earlier, Ondo State Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu commended the sacrifices and  efforts of the army in securing the nation.


The Governor who was represented by his deputy, Agboola Ajayi, assured that his administration would continue to support security agencies in the course of discharging their duties.


Saying " Nigerian Army has made a lot sacrifices to us, especially for the unity of this country and they deserved to have a clean environment to operate.
 
" The military will do better in civilian government more than when they were in power. It is very clear and we will continue to support them," he noted.
