CFAN CALLS FOR CREATION OF FARM SETTLEMENTS...as security measures and employment Creation
The cocoa Farmers Association of Nigeria ( CFAN ) has call on the federal government on the need for creation of farm settlement across the length and breadth of the country as solution to major problem confronting the nation.
Speaking in Akure, Ondo state capital commisserating with the leader of Pan Socio-cultural Organisation Afenifere on the killing of her daughter, Adeola Adegoke, President of CFAN said Nigeria as a country needs to look inward at tackling the various security challenges confronting the country.
The CFAN President posits that the killing of Mrs Funke Olakunri, daughter of Pa Reuben Fasonranti by some gun men can be easily traced to idleness on the part of teeming youths dotted all over the nooks and crannies of our society.
While praying for fortitude that the nonagenarian to bear the great loss of her daughter, noted that the earlier the better, our leaders look at lasting solution to end up all the various crime and vices errupting and most commonly amongst the vibrant youths.
Adegoke who make reference to the early 70s in the country, when farm settlement were created in nearly all the regions in the country.
Enumerating the importance of the farm settlements, the national president of CFAN informs that it encompasses a lot of value-chain agricultural process that are more economically beneficial and productive for the nation as a whole.
He posits further that the recent proposal by the federal government at creating grazing areas across the country, known as RUGA is just an integral part of farm settlement, which all other sectors like tree crop planting, goatry, piggry , poultry amongst other should be included, rather than clamouring for a single aspect.
Adegoke in his words " The creation of RUGA or as it is called is just only one integral part of farm settlement, FG should ensure they create real farm settlement like the olden days that has all other components of value-chain agricultural process , which can be beneficial and creating interaction amongst the farmers for productivity".
The Cocoa president boss urges the government to quickly look-inward in this direction to create employment, reduce crime rates and at the same time boost the economy base of the nation.
Adding that, time has come for the nation to awake from her slumber by diversifying from the monolythic oil economy nature, by investing greatly on agriculture which the nation has the great potentials , most especially Cocoa sector, like the olden days when the western region use cocoa money to be the leading and trailblazing region for development.
