ODSG ENUMERATES IMPORTANCE OF BIRTH REGISTRATION : No registration no enrollment....
The Ondo state Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has enumerates the importance of accurate birth registration as one of the yardstick for even development in the Society.as he said no birth registration certificate, no enrollment for pupils in public primary Schools across the state henceforth .
Speaking in Akure, Ondo state capital at the stakeholders meeting on birth registration organised by the wife of the Governor, Akeredolu said henceforth before enrollment into public primary schools and accessing healthcare from the primary health facilities across the whole eighteen (18) local government areas of the state, birth registration certificate is the key to such facilities, else instantly such mother must obtain the certificate before further treatment can be administer.
The Governor who was worried whether the country can boostly have true and accurate population figures to work on in terms of planning for developmental purposes.
He however urges all relevant stakeholders in the state to cooperate with the government and initiatives embarked on by Her Excellency at having good and adequate documents that can be used in planning for generations through the birth registration , which he posits is a good back-bone for government plans.
In her welcome address, the wife of the Ondo State Governor and initiator of the birth registration initiatives ,Arabinrin Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu informed that the children who are not registered means are not planned for by the government and they can not in any way be accessed or share in the little infrastructures and amenities provided by the government.
Her words " The reason is the children who are not registered are not planned for by the government and they will not in one way or the other share the little infrastructures and amenities set up by the government for the few births that have captured. Therefore, ensuring the visibility of missed children is everyone's responsibility".
The governor's wife who noted that in the country, the birth of more than half of children under age five (5) are not registered while only one woman out of four (4) women who has child under age 5 knows the procedure of registering the birth of that child.
While she solicited for birth registeration of every child across the whole local government areas of the state and the country, noting that the sensitisation of birth registration initiatives have been test-run in Ifedore local government area of the state through the "Olori- Connect" her initiatives that have yeileded positive results and need to replicate such across the eighteen (18) local government areas of the state for proper and effective birth registration.
Goodwill messages were delivered at the occasion from United Nations International Children's Emergency Funds (UNICEF), National Population Commission, Ondo State Primary Health Care Board amongst other, for the support of birth registration as a key to development in any reasonable society.
