ONDO PROMISES BOOST FOR MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH
As the second round of biannual Maternal and child health week kick-off, Ondo state government has reinstated her commitment in this regard.
Flagging off the MNCH Week, the wife of the Ondo State Governor, Arabinrin Betty Ayanwu - Akeredolu promised that the Public Health approach of public enlightenment, community mobilisation, engagement and mass administration of drugs and other consumables which has proved to be an effective and efficient tool for delivering qualitative health services.
Arabinrin Akeredolu listed some of the services to be rendered within the week to include : Vitamin A supplementation, screening for malnutrition, Deworming, Immunisation, HIV testing and counseling, birth registration, training on hand washing, exclusive breastfeeding and distribution of drugs such as fesolate, Folic accid among others.
She appealed to women, mothers and Care givers to take advantage of the week as all services will be available at all 586 Primary Health Centres while Health Workers in uniform will visit Schools, Churches, Mosques and Market places to bring these services to the door step of the people.
The First Lady also appealed to wives of traditional rulers and faith ba to cobased organisations to convey the objectives of the MNCH week to women in their various domain.
While commending the Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for his commitment to all Health Care programmes in the state which she posits that he has demonstrated by providing logistics and enabling environment.
In his goodwill message, The World Bank Team Lead, Dr Oluwole Odutolu said the state was lucky to have two governors in succession that place high premium and value on health delivery and enjoined the people of the state not to waste such opportunity but to take advantage of it.
Dr Odutolu also charged Health workers to ensure they do what is to be done to ensure they achieve the desired coverage in all communities.
In her message, the Zonal Director National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr Adefunke Adesope commended effort of the state government at reducing maternal and child morbidity and mortality. This she noted has contributed to achieving the Millennium Development Goal in healthcare.
She also congratulated the state and the health sector for the interest in the delivery of qualitative healthcare shown by the governor, Arakunrin Akeredolu.
Ealier in his address of welcome, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Wahab Adegbenro opined that the state government's intervention at curbing childhood morbidity and mortality tagged " Agbomola" with a three pronged strategy of infrastructural upgrade, manpower development and community engagement is in tandem with the MNCHW.
The Commissioner said the government has commenced an aggressive equiping of primary Health facilities with diagnostic equipment to ensure the PHC deliver on its mandate as they are closer to the grassroot.
The Health Commissioner said ahead of the MNCH week, Health Workers have been trained both at the State and Local Government levels and much community awareness and mobilisation done to achieve 100% sucess.
While he appreciates the Development Partners, Local Government Chairmen, Traditional and Religious Leaders and all stakeholders for always supporting the government in all their progammes and policies.
