ONDO STUDENTS PROTEST NON-PAYMENT OF BURSARIES






The Ondo state students under the banner of  Ilaje and Ese Odo Students Union have held  a protest in Akure, the Ondo State capital at the weekend  over non payment of their bursaries that have been awarded long ago without any cash backing.

The students in their hundreds carrying various placard visited the Secretariat of the state Oil producing areas located at Oba-ile,Akure before proceeded to the governor's office at Alagbaka to register their feelings on the development.

According to the leader of the students, comrade Balogun Adeola Great said the  administration of governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu in the  State have been insensitive to the plights of the students in the areas  over the outstanding payment of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commssion (OSOPADEC) Bursary cumulated from 2016, 2017 and 2018 sessions.


In their speeches, the president of the National Association of Ilaje Students, (NAIS), comrade Balogun Adeola in conjuction with comrade Tina Tinatei, the president of the Federation of Ese Odo Local Governement Students (FELGOS) accused   Governor Akeredolu of playing politics with the payments of their bursary which they described as their legitimate entitlements. Noting that the governor approved their bursary without cash backing.


In their words " Governor Akeredolu approved payment of our bursaries without any  cash backing, this is a great politics on our lives and future as indegenes of the state, as some  OSOPADEC staff  confided  to us complaining that governor Akeredolu did not release money for payment of our bursary despite his approval”, Baogun posited.

 "You can see that the governor is playing politics with the payment of our bursary which is our constitutional rights. How can he approve bursary payment without cash backing? as we are here at the governor's office, we shall find a solution to the issue.”, Tina said.

However, all attempt at getting position of the government proved abortive, as non of the government officials call on the matter responded.
