NATIONAL ASSEMBLY : OLUWATERU CONDEMNS ATTACK
The former Nigerian Ambassador to Uganda, Otunba Omolade Oluwateru condemned the recent attack on National Assembly, urged Nigerians to stop treating the Assembly with disdain.
Oluwateru, who is also a former deputy governor of Ondo state, said Nigerians should learn how to respect constituted institutions more than individuals.
Speaking in Akure, the Ondo state capital, after obtaining the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Expression of Interest form to enable him contest Ondo Central Senatorial seat on the platform of the party.
Oluwateru noted that a slap on the figure or constituted institution representing the country is a dent and stain on the nation's fabric.
Clement Faboyede, state chairman, presented the form to Oluwateru at the party secretariat, Alagbaka, Akure, after payment of N1million.
"I think the Senate deserves respect from all Nigerians. The way this important institution is being treated with disdain is disturbing.
"We may not like certain individuals at the Senate, but must we throw away the child with the bathwater, witthout considering the gravity ?
"Till now, the hoodlums who invaded the upper chamber of the National Assembly and carted away the mace have not been apprehended. What disrespect can be more than that?
"But then, people of high integrity should be sent to the National Assembly. This will ordinarily attract respect for the institution," Oluwateru noted.
The former deputy governor said he intended going to the Senate to give the people of the senatorial district purposeful and productive representation with quality leadership.
