INDIA HEMP : 20 PEOPLE ARRESTED IN ONDO ...We wouldn't succumb to intimidation - Olusina
The arrested India hemp cultivators in the reserves forest in Ondo state.
The Ondo state government has arrested seizable numbers of india hemp cultivators in the various reserves forest across the state for their illegal activities.
Disclosing this, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Natural Resources, Lawal Fatai Olusina said the culprits were arrested against the allegations that some civil servants in the state were aiding in the cultivation of india hemp in the reseeves as alledged.
Fatai, who said although the timber farmers at the reserves had been helpful in apprehending Indian hemp cultivators, adding that the present officials saddled with the responsibility were also up to the task.
He informed that 20 people had been arrested so far in connection with Indian hemp cultivation at the government reserves in the state.
Adding that those arrested have been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further prosecution.
It will be recalled that one Mrs. Adenike Adeolu levelled allegatiions against some civil servants in the state as aiding some Indian hemp cultivators / dealers at the government reserves,sayi sa the allegations are baseless.
The Governor's aide noted that what happened was that officials of the ministry sealed off Adenike’s sawmill, based on the facts that she had no valid papers to operate the sawmill.
Adding that as a comprehensive report of the ministry, which was an assessment of the sawmills in the state, indicated that Mrs. Adeolu’s sawmill had no approval letter of installation, year of approval, number of units, registration and evidence of payment of renewals.
Olusina in his words " we embarked on comprehensive verification of sawmills operating in the state, while many sawmills were noticed to be operating illegally, and which Adenike Adeolu sawmill was part of such, since she has started behave funny".
“There will be no more sacred cows. If you don’t follow the due process, you will not be allowed to work. The government is concerned about revenue generation. We are exploring our forest and blocking loopholes and corruption .
The SA added since the incident, Mrs Adeolu has been threatened,harrassing and vowed to dealt with the ministry officials for daring to sealed off her sawmill, which she says no body tries such in the last administration,due to her connection.
Olusina however posits that no matter the level of treats ,intimidation or blackmail, the present administration in the state will continue to stand for truth and just in all their dealings.
