ONDO HEALTH PROGRAMME MAY COLLAPSE

The health programmes across the whole eighteen local government areas of ondo state is heading towards nose-diving , if urgent attention is not taking in this regard may collapse.

Reliable sources  gathered across the health institutions that dotted the local government areas of the state, revealed that most of the health facilities are short of health personnels, drugs, dressing and other useful medical equipment, putting them in a state of ghost of themselves.

Society Premium gathered  that most of the basic health centres, comprehensive health centres and general hospitals in all the local government areas across the eighteen local government areas of the state are now mere consulting  institutions, without enough personnels to attend to the teeming patients coming to the health facilities for treatment, talkless of availability of medications.

Recently, the Governor of the state, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu admitted the facts that there is shortage of health personnels in the health institutions across the state, when he directed that there should be correct measures in this regard.

However, since the Governor's pronouncement in this regard, a lot of politics and intricacies have been going on in the state hospital management board ( HMB) without a solution to the darts of personnels in the health institutions, while some contract staffs under  the N-SHIP project, a World bank sponsored project that are giving helping hands to the health sector  in the state have also been lay-off by the state government.

Some of the staff of this project that are in the local government areas, who spoke with the Society Premium informed that they were owing not less than six (6) months allowances by the state government, through the project office ,before a circular was sent directing them to stop work.

While it was also gathered that the N-SHIP project office in the state , is now under suspension , been the only one out of other states in the federation, for alleged of monumental fraud in the  health projects in the state, as the project manager is now under suspension.

It will be recalled recently that a woman gave birth to a child at the Mother and Child hospital, Oke-Aro hospital in Akure, as she was detained for days before been discharged, due to her inability to pay for her delivery charges.

However, the Mother and Child hospital, was the darling of pregnant women before, both in and outside the state, as deliveries were done free of charge, except some special cases that attract fees during the last administration.

Information from most of the available health staff in some health institutions across the state that spoke on condition of anonymity, lamented that shortage of  staff , equipment and medications may cripple the health sector in the state if no urgent attention is taking by the state government in this regard, as they noted is affecting the staffers on duty.

When contacted for comments on this development, the state commissioner for information, Yemi Olowolabi was not forthcoming at giving the position of government in this regard.
