NDE TRAINS 870 YOUTHS ON AGRIBUSINESS




The National Directorate of Employment, (NDE), has commenced the training of 570 Youths in the six geo political zones of the country to reduce
rate of unemployment bitting hard in the country.


The Director General, Dr. Mohammed Nasiru  Ladan  disclosed this at the Flag Off of Sustainable Agricultural Development Training Scheme (SADTS) organised by the Rural Employment Promotion (REP) Department of the NDE in Mariwo, Ifedore local government of Ondo state.


The Director General who was represented by the state Coordinator, Barr. Abubakar Mayowa  Aliu said the programme is in fulfilment of the vision of President Muhammed Buhari's administration for agribusiness economy.


This, he said, is capable of delivering sustained prosperity  by meeting domestic food security goals, generating exports and supporting sustainable income and job growth.


According to him, it has become imperative for the NDE to key into this government policy on agriculture  in line with its primary objective of empowering Youths to be self_employed and for job creation.


The SADTS programme, the Director General said, is being piloted in 19 states of the Federation which had been carefully selected to pilot test the scheme  with 30 participants  with agricultural skills in which they have comparative advantage above others.


In a related development, the NDE  has also commenced the training of 150 Youths in Basic National Open Apprenticeship Scheme (B_NOAS) in three Senatorial Districts of Ondo state.


Speaking at the opening ceremony in Akure, the state Coordinator Barrister Abubakar Mayowa Aliu said , the B_NOAS will take place at Ilutitun, Oke Ijebu and Irun/ Ogbagi in Ondo South, Central and Northern Senatorial Districts respectively for the next three months.


According to him, the beauty of training is that trendy skills that are demand__driven will be introduced in line with modern day practices to facilitate the employability of graduate trainees.


The B_NOAS, he said is as old as the NDE and remains the main scheme that has attracted highest patronage in terms of beneficiaries and popularity being the hallmark of the NDE skills acquisition training.


Barrister Aliu advised the lucky trainees to take the training serious as measure had been put in place to assess performance punctuality and regularity during the training session.


He how ever sounded a note of warning that the Directorate will not hesitate to replace those that are to replace those that are found wanting with those in the waiting list.
