ARMED BANDITS LOOT AKURE AIRPORT
Suspected hoodlums of armed bandits have burgled the office of an Airline operating at the domestic airport in Akure, the Ondo state capital, carted away substantial amount of funds.
The robbers who were said to be acting on an information were said to made away with the money vault at the airline office on the premises of the Akure domestic airport containing millions of naira.
The bandits said to be numbering about four also stolen some personal items that belonged to the staff of the Airline.
The hoodlums according to information have entered into the Airport through a bush path and went straight to burgled the Airline office penultimate Sunday in the midnight.
It was authoritatively gathered that the burglary case was reported at the Oba Ile Police Station at the capital city of Akure.
An employee of the Airline who spoke on the condition of anonymity confirmed the burglary incident to journalists on Wednesday in Akure.
The employee disclosed that some staff of the local airline resumed on Monday to the shocking discovery of the theft in the office.
He revealed that the stolen money which was conceived inside the big vault was the proceed of sales for tickets between Friday and Sunday last week.
"It was surprising when we came to the office on Monday morning to discovered that they have stolen the money vault.
"The money was part of proceed for our tickets for Friday and Sunday, and these thieves came through the window and back door to carry our their operation.
"The money in question was in the saved in the office because we could not get to the bank at the late hour of Friday and Sunday.
"So, we still don't know how the robbers entered here and operated freely with no challenge from the security guard at the airport ".
Femi Joseph, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Ondo Command confirmed the incident on the telephone.
Mr. Joseph stated it was a burglary case as against speculations that the incident was an armed robbery operation at the airport.
He said some suspects have been arrested in connection with the crime as they are currently providing the police with useful information.
"It is true, we got the report that some hoodlums broke into office of the Airline at the local Airport at Oba Ile area of Akure.
"Our Intelligence findings showed that the hoodlums carry our the operation in well coordinated plan as either the door or the windows of their office were broken.
"We have started our investigation and some staff of the Airline have also been invited for interrogation on the matter ".
The police spokesman further added that the police in Ondo state is up to the task of routing out criminals by ensuring adequate security and investigation.
