AKURE KINGDOM : NOT FEWER THAN 850 RENOUNCED CULTISM

This came on the heel that the monarch and elders of the town were not happy with the incessant clashes of the rival cult groups which have led to the loss of lives of many youths in the community in the recent time.
Many youths have reportedly been killed, in Akure, Ondo State capital since the beginning of this year while many were in prison and police custodies as a result of the increasing rate of cult clashes and activities in the ancient town .
According to a source, the elders of the town, who we worried about the development adopted a traditional means to tackle the issue ,by drinking the water, which was like taking an oath of renouncing their involvement in the cult activities.
The source said there was an announcement earlier that all those who were members of the cult groups should go and renounce their membership at the Deji ‘s palace in Akure in the interests of peace and progress of the town.
The sources said, “ The palace adopted that system to curb the killing and violence among the cult groups, many of them have been going to the palace to drink the ‘water’ and renounce their membership, while they also drop their weapons . And If after drinking the water, the person go back to cult, it was gathered that such person (s)will die mysteriously.
“ You can see that since the traditional exercise has started, you hardly hear killing or fighting as a result of cult activities , about 850 of them have done it and their activities have drastically reduced in the town .” confirmed the source.
While the sources noted that those that were not ready for the traditional cleansing had left the town with fear of unknown .
The Chief Press Secretary to the Deji of Akure , Mr. Michael Adeyeye, who confirmed the development said the exercise had started since over thee months ago and that it was aim at eradicating the illegal activities of the cultists in Akure, the state capital and her environs and the state at large.
He explained that a traditional right was performed at the palace, on those who were ready to renounce their cult membership of
In his words, “ There are some people who do the cleansing for them (cultists) at the palace but I don’t know how they do it, all I know is that they are made to swear an oath that they will not go back to cultism.” Adeyeye noted.
