JUSTICE AND FAIRNESS, BANE OF NIGERIA DEVELOPMENT -FAYEMI
Speaking at the tenth (10) year memorial lecture in remembrance of Chief Adebayo Adefarati, former governor of ondo state, tittled " Justice and fairness as panacea for peace". Dr. Kayode Fayemi, minister for mines and steel development in his keynote lecture in Akure, ondo state capital said Nigeria is in crisis of justice as a state.
Dr. Fayemi who was represented at the occasion by former Head of service in Ekiti state, Chief Olubunmi Famosaya posits that every instances and cases made the people to wonder if the government as a custodian of justice are capable in such respect.
He reiterated further that that those in custodian of authority in the country have abused the instrument of office in their care, making fairness and justice a mirage.
In his words " If there is a singular word that encapsulate the grievances, disaffection and disillusionment that has assailed the Nigerian project for decades it is injustice in all its ramifications ".
"All about us , we see the sign of a society been buffetted by everyday with injustice that have led many people to question the role of the state as a guarantor of justice and we conclude that Nigeria is a fundamentally unfair and unjust place".
Dr. Fayemi noted that the idea of justice and fairness is related to other concepts such as the Rule of Law, equity before the Law and that all individuals are equal before the Law.
The Ondo state Governor , Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu in his remarks said the topic is necessary and appropriate at this time, as most Nigerians are not having the faith and believe in the Project called Nigeria.
While he describes the late Adefarati as a legend of our time who sees beyond his time at addressing fundamental issues during his life time.
Adding that late Adefarati as Government of Ondo state was the first governor in the country to put in place an agency to take care of oil producing areas known as OSOPADEC, Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission. While informing that long before the man died , has been clamouring for restructuring of the nation which he agrees then that can not come during his time.
Dignitaries far and near grace the Adebayo Adefarati tenth year memorial lecture amongst, his wife, Mrs Adetutu Adefarati, Olufunke Agagu, wife of late Dr. Olusegun Agagu, former governor of the state friend , families and associates of the late politician fondly referred to as " Baba peace ".
