STALEMATE REMAINS IN ONDO ASSEMBLY
Stalemate continues in the Ondo state House of Assembly as the two factions in the Sunshine Assembly fail to reach a consensus on way forward in the leadership tussle over who lead the House.
A mild drama happened today, Thursday 2nd February 2017, that involved some protesters and security operatives that were Manning the entrance to the Assembly complex.
Information gathered, said a top government official and his entourage, the embattled Speaker and other factional members of the Lawmakers were in the convoy heading towards the Assembly arena, when they ran into the protestants that blocked the way in the process of their demonstration and clashed ensued in the process, as the security operatives were trying to disperse the protesters to give way.
The situation that took several efforts of the security operatives to bring the situation to normalcy left behind broken bottles, sticks, tear-gas cannisters and other objects littered the main road leading to the Assembly complex and the federal secretariat, as it was reported that some of the protesters sustaining injuries, while it was not confirmed if there is any casualty .
It was however noted that as all this protest and reprisal were taken place outside the Assembly complex , the Malaki Coker led faction were said to be peaceful seated in the Hallowed Chamber of the Assembly preparing for the day plenary sitting. As the state Commissioner of police, Hilda Ibifuro Harrison ordered that all staff of the Assembly to vacate their different offices, including the Lawmakers, that she has been ordered from the above to seal-off the Assembly complex.
In his words, Hon. Iroju Ogundeji, representing Odigbo constituency 1 and the spokesperson for the Lawmakers said " we sincerely implore the Inspector General of Police to call to order the state Commissioner of police who may cause disunity and rancour amongst the Lawmakers in the state with her actions and utterances. Since we are one family and peace loving peogle ".
